Roblox Accused of Inflating User Stats and Creating Unsafe Environment for Children

In a detailed report by Hindenburg Research, Roblox is accused of significantly inflating its daily active user (DAU) statistics and fostering a dangerous environment for children. According to the report, as much as 25-42% of Roblox’s claimed 79.5 million DAUs are allegedly inflated due to bot activity, particularly in Vietnam. Additionally, Roblox is accused of failing to prevent inappropriate content, with specific mention of groups trading child pornography. Despite these allegations, Roblox refutes the claims, insisting its platform is safe and that its financial reporting is transparent.

Hindenburg Research accuses Roblox of inflating its user engagement by allowing bots to artificially boost daily active user numbers, particularly in countries like Vietnam. According to the report, Roblox allegedly told the SEC that it is unable to track users with multiple accounts, leading to concerns about the validity of its DAU metrics. The report also claims that a former data scientist indicated that bot activity has significantly inflated Roblox’s engagement stats.
